Some tips
Tuesday 17 March 2009 - Filed under General
- When you hear a funny noise in the middle of the night, don’t just shrug and go back to sleep.
- When you think you’re listening to a really wild early morning rain storm that goes on for hours, make sure it’s actually raining.
- Don’t think your dogs are like Lassie, and will let you know if something is amiss. Just because they bark at plastic bags in the street and small children doesn’t mean they won’t snore through a pipe bursting and flooding three floors.
- Don’t assume that because you spent hours with a sponge and a bucket, and everything looks dry, that your insurance company’s clean up crew won’t tell you it’s worse than it looks
- When the insurance company tells you the clean up crew will poke some holes in your wall and set up some fans, expect the same conditions you would get if you were doing a full fledged remodel.
- Don’t assume you’ve seen the worst of the demolition, when, after the first day, they tell you they need to come back and do more tomorrow.

Little bit of standing water on the second story bathroom where the pipe burst doesn’t look so bad.

The kitchen ceiling below wasn’t so lucky.

Kitchen contents pretty well flooded as the water made its way down to cover the basement in 2 inches of water.

Serious business demolition in progress.

Silver lining, I now have access to fix those stupid ugly can lights.

Holy crap! I heard you had installed an indoor water feature, but this is just over the top. Seriously, I’m pretty sure it’s in the contract that the dogs are supposed to tell you when your house goes all Katrina like this.
Just keep reminding yourself of all the things you can fix now that you might have put off before. Yeah. Right.
