things and places for homes and gardens

Best. Office. Ever.

I’ve always wanted to figure out a way to work from my garden, and in this economy, you’ve always got to be thinking about contingency plans, so a home based business isn’t out of the question. Sure, I have a perfectly good office inside the house, but it has no view of the garden. Can you imagine the extra motivation you would have to get to work if your office were tucked into the corner of your own yard? It would be fantastic, if you could just resist the temptation to run out and pull every weed you noticed. Enter OfficePOD

Office POD

It’s a company in UK that leases these fully functional home offices to businesses, which supply them to their employees. The proposition is that it’s cheaper to have an employee work from here than from office space, and helps retain and motivate workers. I’m sure social types would miss the office interactions, but for those like me that are terrible in social situations and really only fit for a life of solitude and the company of animals content to be alone and communicate via IM, the idea is long overdue. It can be installed in one day, “requires no planning consent,” which I’m guessing is the UK equivalent of US permits. Despite the disappointment that we don’t have flying cars in the year 2009, this is sufficiently futuristic to keep me happy.

I think I would quite like one of those as long as a cat flap could be fitted. I couldn’t stand being stared at through the glass wall by a trio of felines!

easygardener – I agree, and a dog bed in the corner, and I’d be all set.

Ooooh. Before I even read the text, I was calculating how many kidneys I’d have to sell to get one of those. They don’t have to be my own kidneys, do they?

Bill – any kidneys at all will do.
    Amy – right?
