Telltale signs of a gardener

Friday 3 April 2009 - Filed under General

I left the house like this
I went to work and got all the way through lunch when Justin remarked on how it is funny that all my shoes have a little mud on the heel. Which is usually true, but this time, there are signs all over the shoe I’ve been out walking through the garden. Jeez. You can take a girl out of the garden…

I’m sitting here thinking about going out in the yard, but I have on white tennis shoes–and should probably change first, but that seems like a lot of trouble. And then I read this–and also the Danger Gardener–which sure reminds me of you.

So, anyway, now that I’ve read this post, FINE, I’ll just go on out, white shoes and all!

Hm, very practical gardening shoes you’ve got there, as usual. Maybe good for digging planting holes for bulbs? There’s a reason my new favorite pants are brown cords – I can garden in them and (probably) nobody will notice if I don’t get all the dirt off before I have to go somewhere! Less time changing clothes = more time in the garden, as you too have discovered.

Patricia – don’t ruin the white shoes! at least my black shoes can be wiped down!
Karen – I’ve actually used the spike of a stiletto to poke a sempervivum root back into the ground. I’m about to follow suit on your idea of a uniform that goes from garden to the world. I’m going to have a lot more gardening time on my hands after tomorrow, and I have to be ready to go.

I think it should read “Telltale signs of a glamorous gardner”
