Carex ‘Rekohu Sunrise’
Monday 16 November 2009 - Filed under General
Last weekend shopping at Tsugawa’s I found this beauty I never knew existed. Love at first site! A large variegated grass-like form, the blades stiff and curled, reminiscent of a squid agave, to me anyway. I just about wept at the discovery that it’s a hardy, shade tolerant evergreen, a Carex trifida “Rehohu Sunrise.’ I needed 5 of them. I really did. Now if I can find time to plant them.

So glad you found them…and bought 5! Nothing worse than to get home and realize you should have bought more. Can’t wait to see where you plant them!

There are some really great Carexes. Looks like you found another.

Nice, nice, NICE! I’m going to be in the market for more shade-tolerant plants if I have my way next spring/summer, so this is right on target. The margins create such a great, bright effect. I NEED to visit Tsugawa!

I also meant to say I love that shot of the carex (and whatever those darker things are) nestled all cozy in the back of your car!

That is one fine plant, Megan. And new to me. Carex in general seem to be great performers, aren’t they? So show us photos of them when you get them planted. [Nosy, nosy.]

Stripes are the best. I have to watch myself, I tend to over-populate my garden with variegation and forget that some parts need to be solid colors. My carex morowii (bought three, that’s a lot of one plant for me!) have been so great, I’m really glad to have them. Are you massing these or spreading them around?
