Elephant + Chalkboard + French Stuff = Love at First Sight. I really want this chalkboard decal. Reminds me of my first and only trip to France, when I sadly discovered that my school language studies didn’t take me very far in helping me communicate fluently, but I was happy to find I could often understand children at the park, where they were loud and repetitive. One of those phrases that always stuck with me was a child, in a singsong tone, asking about “un éléphante, ou quelque chose comme ça…” An elephant or something like that… Which always amused me, picturing what might be something like an elephant.

I also really enjoy the notion of buying something where the site prompts me to select an animal. So long as you can’t really buy a monkey on the internet.

Update: The LA times reported some wonderful news for elephants in India this week. Elephants will be no longer be kept in zoos and circuses. The elephants will be released to camps where they will no longer be chained up and confined, but allowed to roam and forage as they need for both their health and happiness. Now if we could follow suit here in the states. There’s a wonderful elephant sanctuary in Tennessee that has been tirelessly doing the sometimes heartbreaking work to rescue elephants from bad situations and give them a happy home, so there is hope for our US elephants.

Oui, bien sur! Except that’s about as far as my school french goes too. I would think the elk antlers would be hard to write anything in, except with special teeny chalk, perhaps also purchased from france?

Hi Megan~~ Have you seen Diana’s Elephant’s Eye blog? The header has this photo of a large series of mountains–gorgeous in its own right. But if you look really close you can see an elephant’s head and ears and trunk. And the eye. In fact focus on the round eye first and the rest will fall into place. Only today did I discover it. … I won’t attempt any French here.

I will be happy when all the world’s elephants are free to roam in safe, and appropriate habitats. Hurray for India’s action, and let us here in the US (Porland, this means you, too) follow suit as soon as possible!
