Such a treat to see mature specimens. They could make a girl want to move to Southern California.

It used to be just agaves that I dreamt about planting in my garden and watching grow (rather than die)…but more and more I find myself really wishing I could plant “drifts” of barrel cactus like in your first photo. They have such a strong shape and sense of movement.

Thanks for my desert fix on another grey morning in Portland.

LOVE the plants: the heat they need to thrive…not so much. Thanks for the virtual tour: best of both worlds.

Great posts on the botanical garden, love that little hummingbird! The roadside plants; definitely worth the stops! Very nice. I think that’s one of the most interesting parts of a vacation; the different plant life.
