I mentioned a while back that I was considering a katsura in my little remaining space for new trees. They’re charming trees, with pretty, delicate looking fresh light green leaves that turn brilliant shades of orange in the fall, in a shapely tree. All that I knew.
Today, I was reading Don’s great blog, An Iowa Garden. Don has the plant collection of my dreams. I like to think I’ve done my horticultural homework and know what’s out there, but I regularly add something new to my wish list when I read daily about yet another amazing plant he has on his property. In today’s post, I learned that his katsura’s fall color change is accompanied by the smell of sugar, reminiscent of a caramel corn stand. That pretty much seals the deal, that’s the next tree I plant.

That does look like a very pretty-leafed tree.

I had afriend ask me about this tree .. and I gave it a glowing report to her. BUT … I didn’t know about this aroma attribute !!! .. I am very jealous now of all you gardeners having such a fantastic tree with such a wonderful smell in the Fall !
