Artemesia Nursery in SE Portland

Last weekend, my neighbors let me borrow their adorable pit bull puppy, and I seized the opportunity to appear in public with a dog who, unlike my guys, doesn’t menace every living thing we come across. I took him out to Artemesia Nursery in SE Portland, which I’ve been wanting to check out for months, and I’m so glad I did.
Best puppy in the world
It’s a small cozy nursery with a terrific selection of plants you don’t often see, some I had no idea even existed, like this spineless prickly pear cactus, which solves the dilemma of wanting cactus in the garden, but not wanting a puppy to have an unpleasant collision.

It’s such a treat to find a nursery close by in the city, where I can discover plants I’ve never seen before, that usually require 3 hour drives to remote nurseries, like this evergreen hydrangea seemanii, and salix fargesi, plus all kinds of more common yet lovely selections you don’t see every day. Well worth the trip.

Now THAT is a cute puppy. The Echeveria is fascinating, too. I don’t have any sense of scale… how big is it?

The echeveria was only 4 – 5 inches. I loved the appearance of light shining through the tips. It was actually out of direct sunlight in the greenhouse, but it looks like the sun is hitting it.

I love that place – love the art inside too.
